What is the CCAA Breeder's Cup Invitational?
The CCAA Breeder’s Cup Invitational is a non-AKC event judged by a panel of three judges where the entrants are invited to compete. The 3 judges are generally selected as follows: 2 longtime Cane Corso breeders and another judge, who is also an accomplished breeder. Judges are announced prior to the event. You do not need to be a member of the CCAA to be invited to compete at the CCAA Breeder's Cup Invitational.
Although this is a non-AKC event, the CCAA asks that potential Judge/Handler conflicts of interest be handled in accordance with the AKC’s 4 month rule detailed on page 4 of its “Rules Policies and Guidelines for Conformation Dog Show Judges” booklet.
Each judge scores each dog individually and each dog's scores are then calculated. Each judge has his or her own ring, so they score the dogs on their own and with their own expertise on the breed. There's also a fun part where the handler and dog go around the ring while their favorite pre-selected song is played. They do some free stacks and just have fun for the spectators. The format of this event gives each dog time to show off individually and be viewed by the judges and the fancy in an intimate setting. This is the highest level of conformation competition for the Cane Corso breed in the USA and the invitees are commended on their hard work and success in qualifying. The highest combined score is named the Breeder's Cup Invitational winner and is awarded a custom sculpture of the Cane Corso head, a plaque and a rosette.
The CCAA also features a People’s Choice award, which is an exciting opportunity for spectators to vote for his or her favorite exhibitor. The spectators are given ballots and they get to vote for their favorite dog in the competition. The winner of this is named the People's Choice Winner and is awarded a plaque and a rosette.
Each competitor who enters by the entry deadline receives a commemorative personalized rosette. Late entries will receive a commemorative non-personalized rosette. The Breeder's Cup Invitational and People's Choice Winners are announced at the CCAA Awards Banquet on Saturday evening. For participants and spectators alike, this is the best showcase for the top dogs in our breed. Other breeds call this event the "Top 20" but because we include more than just the year's top 20 dogs and we make it a point to have breeders judge the dogs, we call it the Breeder's Cup Invitational. Effective January 1, 2022, to qualify for the 2024 CCAA Breeder's Cup Invitational, a Cane Corso must fall somewhere in this special recipe:

- 2023 through 2018 National Specialty Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Winner
